Since the event's debut on July 19th, RHYTHM and POETRY has garnered a very loyal fan base. The same fan base that was sad to see the event go after it's successful college tour. Event goers of all ages expressed interest in bringing the live music & art showcase back full-time. IdleMindz was listening.

Starting January 17th, IdleMindz is bringing your favorite event back! The response we’re getting regarding the event’s revival has been great and we look forward to seeing you all on January 17th at Traffic Boutique!

Traffic Boutique is a black-owned clothing boutique & art gallery located in downtown New Orleans [1025 Bienville]. It’s open daily ’til 7p. We’re pushing the event up an hour so Rhythm And Poetry will be held every 1st & 3rd Monday from 8p-10p. Doors will open at 7:30p, with live band, 3rd Degree providing your listening pleasure throughout the evening.

Of course TheSeKondElement & Greg Banks will be back to host and keep you company during the event!

TheSeKondElement drops her debut LP, The Kommencement, this Monday 5.10!

The timing & title is more than fitting. Commencement means a beginning or start. It is also a ceremony in which degrees or diplomas are conferred on graduating students. Dropping a year & 1 day after she received her own degree from Xavier University and two days after many of her closest friends received theirs, this truly is just the beginning for TheSeKondElement and everyone in her camp.

The album contains Hip Hop & Poetry and will be available online via KAMMsTheACE.com (click the Fleur de lis) as well as in retail stores in New Orleans (see below for a list of retailers).

If you love Hip Hop &/or poetry you are sure to love this project. If you aren't feeling Hip Hop or poetry so much, this is the perfect project for you to give either genre another try. Listeners and fans across the country have called TheSeKondElement's music refreshing and a detour from current radio & TV play.

The best thing about this photo is that it wasn't at all planned. I was sitting in Philadelphia's airport waiting for my flight to Atlanta to board when I pulled out all the kontents of my backpack (which my friends call the baby bag in jest because I take it EVERYWHERE & it holds ALL my essentials) and snapped the pic! --KAMMs

I'm not sure if I'm the only photographer that gets stopped EVERY single time I have my camera with me and asked by someone to take their picture. This night waiting for two cheese steaks in the famed Ishkibibble's was no different. Didn't catch their names but learned a lot about the young man holding up the peace sign. We have at least two things in common: we both spent a significant amount of time in Oakland/Bay Area and we both enjoy photographer, though he prefers film (he swears film is gonna make a comeback any day now LOL).

Between all of my many skills, I do a lot of art creating. But photography is different from all of the skills in that I like to think I am capturing art, not creating it. All of the locations I shot at with model, Michael Pepp were abandoned locations damaged from Hurrican Katrina in New Orleans.

The old saying "one man's trash is another man's treasure" rang true throughout this shoot. It seemed like each location he took me to was an untapped land mine. I loved every minute of the shoot.

Michael also needed very little direction. I took a ton of frames and almost each and every one was different! Kudos to Mike for daring to move! :)

Finally, I got to do a shoot with Louis. He makes shooting easy! I gave very little direction and got some pretty amazing shots. We took a lot of shots as well, after he introduced me to a new location. I was kind of overwhelmed at first, I could've easily shot there all day--until my camera broke. Guess it's time to replace & upgrade.

But I digress.

Here are a few of my favorite shots from my session with Louis who is not only a radio personality with his own show on Crescent City Radio but also a singer working on his debut project! Keep your ear out for him. He's nice!

So Mia X, yes thee Mia X, wrapped up her video shoot last night with a few club scenes at NV Lounge. I was honored to have been the photographer for the night. I asked Kory to come along and AD me with the shoot, though it wasn't really an AD considering it was an event shoot.

The theme of the video and atmosphere last night was 80s which happens to be my favorite decade, apart from the 20s. (I think I lived in Harlem in the 20s in a past life.) Mia X was rocking her stacks hard, and Downtown Leslie Brown came through for a cameo and to interview Mia and her crew for One 212 TV.

Truth Universal in the French Market

Did a small photo shoot recently with Truth Universal in the French Market of New Orleans. Truth Universal is a revolutionary emcee based out of New Orleans. Click on his name to check out more of him.

I shot way too many frames in the amount of time we were out there shooting; I'll never do that again! :) So even though it was semi-impromptu small shoot it was the largest number of shot I've ever had to narrow down. Here are a few of my favorite shots from that set.

Franklin IV Takes Over Dillard's

Givenchy launched a new men's cologne recently and in promotion of the launch, Dillard's hired the best man & music team for the job. Franklin IV took over Dillard's for about an hour last Saturday (should've been longer in my opinion). You know Franklin IV has to be serious for me, because there is no other reason I would hike it to the Westbank of New Orleans to go to Oakhood--I mean Oakwood Mall other than for a very special occasion. Seeing Franklin IV LIVE is a very special occasion. Of course I had the camera in-tow. And here are few of my fav shots from the occasion. Enjoy!

Did a shoot outside of the Howlin Wolf in New Orleans last night. Got a ton of shots! The feature of the shoot was this young guy, Bryce; an 11-year-old, New Orleans native, & skateboarder who is undoubtedly better than me on the board! Between myself, Bryce's natural swank, Flybro, who came through for the shoot as well, and some of the other folks around us we had a pretty awesome three hour shoot! There's a few shots I'd really love to post but can't for--uhh--legal reasons! Thanks Soap! :/

The Heart & Sole Studio Shoot

New Orleans emcee, Lyrikill, teamed up with, The Pro Prospek, arguably one of the best producers currently in New Orleans, for his latest project Heart & Sole (Sole, as in the sole of his sneakers! Get it? Haha. Dude has a serious sneaker addiction).

The first single from the LP is "That Dude" and Larry Legaux of OnPoint Media shot the video for the first single at Prospek's studio. So I went to the studio to shoot a couple of shots. The studio & most of the other spaces we shot in were very confined which made it a tad challenging, but I still think we got some great shots.

A plus is that Prospek has lots of art all over the studio which made for some interesting backgrounds whithout much of a search. Down below are a few of my favorite shots!

This one is definitely going in my portfolio. It's going to be the last image at that! When I saw this sign outside of The Bench in Atlanta my heart skipped a beat. I'm not sure why, but it did. I kept taking pictures of it, from every possible angle and distance I could think of. After going through the pictures I realized the best one was the simplest, the first one I took--head on. This sign is so street. So grassroots. So Hip Hop.

Passing out flyers yesterday for famed venue Howlin' Wolf, who did I spot? None other than Dee-1! Glad to see he's doing well and back on his grind after his accident. He was doing something I never even would have thought of. Literally selling CDs & bottled water out of the back of a truck during Essence. GENIUS. I was even witness to a few sales. I stopped by and snapped a few pictures.

Shedrum @ The Wall: On the FLY

OK, let me first start out by saying this young man's name is not Shedrum! It's Sherard (like jerrard with an "SH"). I didn't type Shedrum by mistake, it's an inside joke based around the fact no one enunciates his name correctly! LOL So please, if you do happen to mention something to him about the pictures or this post don't call the boy Shedrum. Thanks.

Now, this photoshoot was seriously on the fly. We were at the Dragon's Den checking out some poetry from 3 of 5 of the Team SNO members when he sent me a text asking if I felt like doing an impromptu mini-shoot. SURE! After the show (pictures from that coming soon), he took us to this art wall. The art was amazing!! I really wish I could have captured more of it, but I didn't have proper lighting (we used the headlights on my truck) and the black paint in the artwork was a gloss finish.

Still for an hour-long impromptu shoot the pictures came out really cool if I do say so myself. As always, here are some of my favs, and your feedback is appreciated! Thanks Much!!

I'm kind of at a loss for words. Kind of don't know where to start... <--Rare.

Slangston Hughes hired me to shoot one of his events for promotional purposes. I had no idea what I'd be walking in to though, it was my assumption that it would just be him performing. I leisurely walked through downtown and into the venue (Hostel), thinking this was just another late-night gig. I left in awe.

I'd previously heard of Team SNO (SLAM New Orleans) in passing conversation. Didn't know it was a poetry SLAM team though. Had no idea they were this dope. I took more pictures at this one event (750+) than I have at any other New Orleans night-life event. I was truly inspired.

Some artists can be super boring to photograph. Performing an entire set eyes closed, in the same spot, with little emotion, and/or no passion are all recipes for boring pictures. Chances are the more pictures I have of you, the more you have inspired me through your performance this goes for any artist (models included). [I got a TON of Team SNO.] Me pointing the camera and shooting is only half of the battle. The artists got to "put in work!" LOL

These poets definitely gained more than one fan last night. As soon as I left the shoot I sent a text to my sis telling her what she missed (suckaa lol). Earlier today I came across a video of them on YouTube (AMAZING) and posted it on my artist page. A few people found it, loved it, and shared it with others. Proper to Team SNO & THANKS FOR THE INSPIRATION!
